The Week in Swiss Startups (5-9.6.2023) - Week #23
The first week of June ‘23 features 5 startups and 0 exits. What would you like to see in the newsletter n. 100?
Hey there!
Is summer break already upon us? Last week witnessed a mere five startups unveiling their financing rounds or receiving prestigious awards. With a decrease in investment activities, I have been occupying myself by delving into the wealth of insights provided by Carta. In my previous update, I shared a graph depicting bridge rounds.
This week, I would like to draw attention to a noteworthy LinkedIn post concerning VC dry powder.
Turns out, it's mostly living in the bank accounts of LPs. The nearly 3,000 venture funds on Carta called 45% less capital in May than last January. The absolute numbers: $1.25 billion called in Jan 22, $687 million called last month. The more than 3,000 SPVs on Carta called 80% less capital!
Although I lack specific insights regarding the geographical split, it is highly likely that the data is primarily focused on the US. However, I am curious about the state of affairs in Europe. How are things progressing here?
Newsletter n. 100 is just around the corner, scheduled next Monday. In honor of this significant milestone, I would love to hear your thoughts. What would you like to see in this special edition? Simply click the button below and share your ideas with me!
Have a great day,
Gian
